Success is to be measured not so much by the
Position you have reached in life,
But by the things you have struggled with
And conquered while trying to succeed.
-----Booker T. Washington (1856-1915)

The first major category of We Are the Future Inc., International TM (WATF) is our T.R.A.Y. Program TM.

T.R.A.Y.  stands for "Be Thankful, Respectful, Appreciative and Yourself."

It is a manners, etiquette, and social graces program for youths,
6-18 years of age. Our conviction for the T.R.A.Y. Program TM is rooted in two biblical principles, which are as follows:

1) "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them,…" (Matthew 7:12, New King James Version)

2) "…You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22:39, New King James Version)

Our T.R.A.Y. Program TM is the training component of our organization that encourages our youths to appreciate themselves, and in turn treat others the way they would want to be treated.

They will accomplish this through observation and application.

By observation, we mean the following: Man's first teacher was his eyes. By constant vigilance he discovered he had not only his eyes to see, but also a brain to interpret. Observation is the best teacher to develop social graces. It  teaches courtesy which is the act of being thoughtful and considerate of others. It teaches you not to walk in front of someone without saying "pardon me." It teaches you not to  forget to say "thank you" when someone holds the door open
for you.

Observation teaches you to observe things in nature. A good
part of understanding is gained by observing the sun, moon,
stars, clouds and the infinite variety of natural things. They
all teach and enrich our capacity to think.

Observation broadens the outlook, enlarges the perspective,
gives depth to understanding, sharpens the wit, and makes you more responsive to opportunities.

Rustin said: “The commonest things in the world are the most worthwhile.

Observation trains you to see the little things, and to realize
that all big things are made up of a lot of little things. Anyone
can see the boulders but it is the little pebbles that throw you.
Try to observe things in their form, size, and color. It will instruct you to compare. To compare is to analyze and to analyze is to think. In other words, observation enhances your power to think.

Our T.R.A.Y. Program TM is an eight-week course for youths within the school system. T.R.A.Y. class sessions are held during the schools' four nine-week grading periods as well as four weeks in the summer. All youths will be required to attend two classes per week during the regular school week and apply what they have observed.

During these eight weeks, T.R.A.Y. teachers will instruct students in the area of manners, etiquette, social graces and character traits (i.e. truthfulness, gratefulness, generosity, orderliness, forgiveness, sincerity, and virtue), table manners, etiquette, art of handshaking, greetings, interruptions, appearance, and anger management.

As a result of this training, we anticipate that it will reduce the number of disciplinary referrals by at least 70-75% by the end of 2002.

Consequently, we will have equipped our youth with core values and behavior that will greatly enhance their self-respect, self-esteem, determination and confidence for the rest of their lives. Think for a moment, if you will, about the far-reaching impact that this will have in homes, schools, and communities where our youths live.
